The Hollow War was a violent dirt-war waged between the DBF and the Hallowed Vale on the Overlords 2 server.

Background

Following the Great Rebellion of 184 and their foundation, the DBF maintained a perpetual state of hositility towards the Hallowed Vale and continentals more generally. The conflict between the DBF and the Hallowed Vale in particular does not have a set start date. Given the DBF faction was born out of the times of the rebellion, the war footing they kept since their inception was perpetually maintained.

Conflict

Once the DBF began to become more settled, and following the construction of the community of Bangfield on the island of Dagobah, they began to pillage and raid deep into the continent.

Raid on the Hallowed Vale

Once such raid occured on December 21, 2023, where a three-man team led by jusipat raided the Hallowed Vale, pouring lava on a great well-armed host outside its walls. While attacker Kjolt947 was slain, both Cflip_ and jusipat were able to escape and mask their involvement in the raid.

The raid on the Hallowed Vale.

The raid was incredibly successful for the DBF, as they were able to evade blame. This came at the unfortunate cost of Kjolt947, as his settlement of Kjahog Gruppel was levelled in retribution for the attack.

DBF Scouting

Following the raid, the DBF continued its scouting and pillaging of the vast ruins of the continent. This included creating a DBF outpost in the ruins of Fionnbryn, as its many basements and cellars allowed for easy evasion from those who would track movement from above.

The Final Act

As Bangfield continued development, for a few days, or in-game years, it seemed as if the DBF was entering a new era of peace and harmony.

Bangfield Infiltration

This reverie was brusquely interrupted when The_Old_Bookman and Mathooleus inexplicably appeared in one of jusipat's secret underground manufactories in Bangfield while he was working there. This location contained jusipat's most valuable possessions, including his Refined Storage system. The entrance was concealed behind two hidden ghost-block doors. Mysteriously, this did not impede the two from easily finding the secret quarters. In reaction, jusipat immediately pounced on the two intruders as they attempted to communicate in the chat. jusipat was promptly slain, as he stood no chance against their magical abilities. His bed was destroyed, but nothing else of value was taken. Following thus, he immediately declared war on the Hallowed Vale on behalf of the DBF.

Bridge Ambush

jusipat supplied Kjolt947 with an incendiarily-trapped chest to place on the Hallowed Vale's very-flammable bridge leading to their main base. Kjolt947 then placed the chest and called over The_Old_Bookman to access its contents, saying it contained rejected gifts from the Hallowed Vale which he wanted to return. While the explosion did little damage, DBF members would approach later in the night to complete the bridge's destruction.

The Great Dirt War on the Hollow Vale

Following the attack on the bridge, it was believed that the Vale would respond in force and launch an assault on Bangfield. Knowing the disparity between their combat abilities, jusipat opted for a dirt-war approach against the Vale. A spot near to the Vale was chosen, a hole dug, beds placed, and supplies loaded into chests. From this dirt-mound, the dirtwar would begin.

While Vale forces ravaged Bangfield, three, and soon four, members of the DBF commenced their hail-mary assault on the Hallowed Vale. Given the hollow nature of the hill the primary complex was constructed on, it was easy for the attackers to pierce the hill and wreak havoc on the interior. Inside the hill was many complex create machines, automation, and farms. The defenders soon realised the scale of the attack taking place on their territory. NPC soldiers were able to stop some of the assaults, only for them to be bypassed by other attackers. Lava buckets, stone tools, and grenades were used to maximum effect by the attackers.

Soon, the attackers managed to reach the crest of the artificial hill, and break into the Vale's primary fortress. From this, the Vale's Refined Storage drivers were captured and hidden away by jusipat.

Anti Dirt-War Methods

The_Old_Bookman slowly began to contain the attacks against the Vale. The FOB used by the DBF was found and destroyed. Alongside this, The_Old_Bookman began to use magic to trap players and then encase them in obsidian in order to remove them from play in the war. At this point, the Hallowed Vale was a smoking ruin. With most of the DBF now trapped in obsidian, jusipat's goal of mutual destruction was achieved. He unceremoniously combat-logged as he was being encased in obsidian, and was consequently banned from the server.

Conclusion

Following the Dirt War offensive on the Vale, the other members of the DBF ceased their attacks. The_Old_Bookman would go on to rarely play on the server, seeing his base almost entirely in ruin. The other members of the DBF would eventually disband the organisation in favour of the nation of Slamdunker.
