Ealdburg under the Bretwalda.

Ealdburg was a settlement founded by bcfoss during Balfyard. It was the oldest settlement in the war-like player cluster and constantly feuded with it's neighbors.

History

Initial Settlement

After many ingame days of migration, bcfoss settled on a hill overlooking an expanse of swampland. Initially heavily wooded, early efforts were focused on clearing the hill-crest and encircling it with a wooden palisade.

Early History

Construction of a cobblestone tower was initiated, though progress was slow due to a lack of stone. Deforestation continued and the woods were gradually pushed back several meters from the wall.

Around this time, rumors began to circulate that the traveler Kjolt947 had obtained a Long Arm which enabled him to punch things from a great distance. Coveting this mythical artifact, bcfoss hosted the wizard at Ealdburg for a night before assaulting and killing him. Despite his severe equipment disadvantage, Kjolt947 managed to avenge himself when he returned to Ealdburg. Kjolt947 then burned all the belongings he could not carry, including a golden sword, before escaping to the Mountain of Lies. Ealdburg enlisted the help of Wikaros in order to reclaim the remaining treasures; an account of the adventure was put to writing in the Ealdburg Book, the soul primary source for this period.

Bretwalda

RegentMarmot founded a settlement nearby in the Swamplands, though the name has been lost to time (hereafter called Wikaham). Skirmishes with Ealdburg began soon afterword, mostly over crop seeds.

jprik migrated into Wikaham just as Wikaros was preparing for a major offensive against Ealdburg. Joining forces, they stormed the palisade and besieged the tower. bcfoss managed to repulse two assaults before being overwhelmed. Ealdburg was stripped of its valuables, but most were returned after bcfoss acknowledged Wikaros as Bretwalda or Overking.
