Prikington
Prikington was one of the largest cities ever constructed on any server. At one point it held 6 inhabitants and during its golden-era held democratic elections to determine its mayor. Prikington was founded by nobel617 January 20th, 2019 at around 1300-1400. It was established in a jungle thicket, next to a very large ocean. The surrounding geography locked in Prikington, with large amounts of deforestation and terraforming required to expand into the thick jungle biome directly behind the coast.
Early Prikington Era
The nascent city of Prikington was founded with a sense of optimism, with the belief in a uniform and realistically urban city uniting the quickly swelling ranks of citizens. The first player to join nobel617 in Prikington was joestanly04, who arrived from the south a few hours after initial settlement. Soon after, players flufyking and bcfoss would join the city. Some time later DaLogangster, GuerillaFighter, MS2004, and WestwardBound16 would all join the city.
Infrastructure
Prikington was the first ever planned city in design and infrastructure, with nobel617 having full say over what building materials were permitted to maintain a uniform look. This allowed Prikington to blend in well with the surrounding jungle and generally look good. Prikington contained dozens of buildings, slave pits deeper in the jungle, and a graveyard in a nearby valley.
Prikington's Golden Era
Prikington began to flourish with a large influx of new player joining, new buildings constructed, and new families conceived during this period. Due to this, a stronger and more organized system of governance was suggested by joestanly04, in the form of democratic elections. GuerillaFighter began to cause middling amounts of chaos during this period, such as setting fires and building tunnels under the city.
Political Parties
In response to the growth of Prikington and the conflicting interests of some of the citizenry, different political parties formed to give greater representation to the people of Prikington.
Anti-Magic Party
Founded by nobel617, the Anti-Magic Party was staunchly opposed to the use of magic within Prikington. It was the first party founded and enjoyed middling success, but ultimately failed to elect a mayor.
Pro-Magic Party
Founded by bcfoss in direct opposition to the Anti-Magic Party, the Pro-Magic Party was not very popular since bcfoss was the only magic practitioner in the city.
Centrist/Moderate Party
Founded by joestanly04 in reaction to the Anti-Magic Party, the fittingly named Moderate Party was a centrist party which bled support from both of the other parties and won the first election. joestanly04 went on to become the town's first mayor.
Elections
As Prikington grew elections became a recognized way to legitimize the town's authority on the server, therefore the night of January 24th, 2019 elections were agreed by members to be organized.
First Prikington Election
The first election to be held in Prikington yielded victory to the Moderate Party, which promised vapid ideas and achieved nothing. Player joestanly04 defined the rules for the next election, citing that if the majority of the citizens wanted a new election, one must be organized.
Interelection Period
Following the election, mayor joestanly04 built the servers' first energy condenser and began construction of a factory within city limits.
Second Prikington Election
The second series of elections to happen in Prikington are the primary reason for the eventual decline of the city. Players flufyking, bcfoss and nobel617 used a loophole in the election rules to elect flufyking as leader while only they were online, as at that time they constituted the majority of the electorate on the server. Upon logging back in and hearing of what he deemed a 'coup', joestanly04 began a descent into paranoia that would eventually cause him to leave the city.
Late Prikington Era
The later history of Prikington was defined by successive waves of mass emmigration that lessened the city's influence and relevance. The first to leave was joestanly04 for the aforementioned results of the second election, who leaved suddenly and without warning, bringing with him MS2004 to go on to found Excilé. joestanly04 also took the city's only Energy Condenser at that time. Emigration of others followed soon after by nobel617 and flufyking.
Diplomatic Interactions with Excilé
Before the departure of nobel617 and flufyking, but after the disappearance of joestanly04 and MS2004 from the city it was believed the newly founded nation of Excilé would return to Prikington with an army to rescind the results of the last election and return joestanly04 as dictator of the city. This belief was promulgated widely via the visible preparations the city undertook to repel a potential naval landing, with punji sticks and barriers being constructed, along with the now largely abandoned beachside residential district stripped and retrofitted into congested urban defenses. It later became clear that no Exciléan attack would come, rendering the effort put into the defenses null and void. This was a large factor in nobel617 leaving the city, as the location of Exilé had not yet been disclosed and there was no strategic reason to remain in the city.
Decline of Prikington
The last active citizen at the time was bcfoss, who claimed the title of 'King of Prikington' and acted as general caretaker for the depopulated city. Spanish Moss and other Witchery plants were given free reign over streets and unoccupied housing was de-torched. During his reign bcfoss successfully defended Prikington from the Viking Raid on Prikington by nobel617, and launched a counter invasion of VIKING_BASE. Following days of even further stagnation bcfoss finally abdicated the throne and left in search of a new homeland, eventually founding the city of Slee.
After bcfoss's departure flufyking became the sole inhabitant of Prikington and its de facto ruler. A betrothal was negotiated between flufyking and bcfoss's daughter Scrêtchellia(?) in order to enhance the legitimacy of both parties, but it was never consumated(?).
Obsidian Pyramid Period
After a significant period of inactivity, flufyking emerged from torpor and asserted his control over the city. Witchery flora which was allowed to spread during the Stagnation Period was removed, and many (and eventually all) existing buildings were demolished to make way for the construction of a massive obsidian pyramid on the western piers. A tunnel was excavated in the northern mountain face in order to facilitate the construction of a railway to Slee(?), but construction was halted due to increasing tensions between Techno-God aligned Prikington, and Anti-Techno-God leaning Slee.
After another period of inactivity on flufyking's part, bcfoss again de-torched the area surrounding Prikington only for flufyking to log on the next day and re-torch everything.
nobel617, with material support from Slee, constructed a nuclear warhead(?) and smuggled it into Prikington. Due to suspicious activity his cover was blown, but he managed to detonate the bomb on the lower steps of the pyramid. Due to the obsidian make up of the pyramid the structure itself received little damage, but the surrounding area was not so lucky. The pyramid itself was empty, so nothing of value was lost. In retaliation, the Techno-God would fire a punitive salvo of missiles at Slee as a warning and spawncamp worldspawn demanding surrender.
Legacy
Prikington was the largest city on record at the time, and would not be surpassed in population until the rise of Pushkino.
