The Calamity was a widespread disaster that began as a simple war between Cflip_, jusipat and Kjolt947 against the members of Old Japan. jusipat had planned for a simple non-destructive war, but things quickly escalated and both Old Japan and Épinette-sur-quès were burned to the ground.

History

The "Non-Destructive War"

jusipat and Cflip_ were beginning to get bored with Minecraft, so they chose to do something radical to breathe new life into the server. jusipat proposed the idea of a non-destructive war against Old Japan, and Cflip_ and Kjolt947 joined. They all boated to Old Japan and occupied a fort along the border wall. Members of Old Japan quickly returned from a mining trip and held fort at the top of the skyscraper. Both sides stared at each other for minutes until rice_fish suddenly began repeatedly running out of his house and fighting the attackers.

Mutually Assured Destruction

To put an end to the repeated guerilla attacks, jusipat poured lava on rice_fish's bed. This was a major lapse of judgement, as rice_fish's house began burning. jusipat and Cflip_ attempted to put out the accidental fire, but Kjolt947 seemingly poured lava in baconpancakes36's home. It is unknown whether Kjolt947 intentionally started this fire to cause total chaos, or if he misunderstood the situation and thought jusipat was trying to burn down houses. Nevertheless, once members of Old Japan realized their buildings were being burned they immediately set up a war economy to launch guerilla attacks against Épinette-sur-quès. jusipat, Cflip_ and Kjolt947 returned to Épinette-sur-quès to defend, but little could be done against the oncoming fighters who lit fires and poured lava in the city.

Battle of Shanbao

Upon realizing that Épinette-sur-quès was a lost cause, Cflip_ and jusipat returned to Shanbao to defend against inevitable attacks. Members of Old Japan immediately began destroying structures in Shanbao, but little could be done due to the lack of flammable materials used in Shanbao's architecture. baconpancakes36 was able to use an ender pearl to teleport into the main fort and poured lava inside the building, which burned out the floors within. The attackers were eventually repelled, proving the efficacy of Shanbao as a military installation.

Aftermath

Following the battle at Shanbao, both sides gave up fighting and went back to the destroyed cities to assess the damage. While everyone was looking at the ruins of Old Japan, Kjolt947 lit more fires on the remains of the buildings and combat-logged when confronted, giving evidence that his original bucket of lava was placed to cause worldwide chaos.

The French-speaking players of Épinette-sur-quès split up and moved north eventually forming Melondeau and L'Empire de la Citroye, except for bcfoss who remained in his home in the rump province of Sableterre, soon renamed Arenica and latinized. Players of Old Japan split up across the world, and a few of the members would play much less frequently. Shanbao, suffering minimal damage, remained as-is, though weakened.
